The Conditions of Human-Nature
Climate Center in New York CityThis proposal speculates on the radical rethinking of the agency of architectural design on our planet to combat the evolving environment.
The project works in three responsive layers to evolving site conditions due to Climate Change. Each one ties a nature and human condition to it to keep an equitable design for both. This proposal reinterprets the boundary between land, water, and vegetation as an architectural tool that is more responsive to the needs of nature as well as people. The deconstruction of the built form over time comes at the hands of the plants and wildlife that reinsert themselves on Manhattan, with this site acting as a vessel of protection and promotion for all.
The River layer acts as a temporary public forum that is floodable and protects the other layers from rising sea levels. The Terrestrial pushes and pulls a mesh surface to adhere for different types of vegetation growth and houses preservation program that will be protected from flooding. The sky layer is an infrastructure that overtime will be overgrown with nature as the lower layers have been lost to rising sea levels. This symbolizes our future, either one we can choose to adapt to or one that will end us.
