The Natural Dwelling
Temporary Housing in Richmond, VAStudio project designing temporary faculty housing for the University of Richmond and VCU. Located along Broad Street in the urbanity of Richmond sets up a moment to step back and have a site dedicated to promoting creativity and mental well-being. This is done through incorporating vegetation at all scales of the project; from a façade material, to incorporated systems, and through an extension of the surrounding community. The project also promotes incorporating new semi-private spaces through its spatial organization. The dwelling units are raised to the sky to provide privacy with a public working garden of art and nature is pressed into the ground for comfort. This duet of air and sky lays the roots for a social growth through the universities and community on a more equitable and sustainable way of life.
